Wisdom Chitembetembe was born in Zimbabwe in 1996. He currently resides in South Africa due to the political instability in his home country.
Chitembetembe is a self taught visual artist who hopes to broaden the perspectives and viewpoints of those who encounter his artworks. He endeavours to bring awareness to the issues and experiences that so many individuals face in their everyday lives.
“Hupenyu iRwendo”, the title of this exhibition, translated from Shona, means “Life is a Journey”.
Chitembetembe uses charcoal as his primary medium. As an expression tool he believes that charcoal, without being too loud, helps convey the deep feelings and messages held within the works he creates.
“I wish to educate and inspire people through my works, and to bring hope where it is lost, or joy where there is sadness. Art is life and life itself is art.” - Wisdom Chitembetembe
