This is not a banana

March 16, 2025 - April 25, 2025

15 Hulbert Road, New Centre, Johannesburg 2001

The focal point of this exhibition is the notion of verisimilitude as explored by artists and philosophers who have challenged the nature of reality and representation.

The representation of self or another is a device artists use to present their personal ‘views’, enabling a unique perspective on identity, ‘reality’ and the nature of the human condition.

Portraiture, as expressed by diverse artists such as Rembrandt, George Pemba, Frida Carla, Jean Michel Basquiat and Marlene Dumas, is closely allied to this interrogation of “representation” - whether presentational, abstract, digital, a sculpture, an assemblage or an installation.

This exhibition brings together artists that use various approaches to express and represent themselves and others.
